Windermere Mustang Monthly

A NEWSLETTER FOR THE WINDERMERE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Mustang Families,

As the autumn leaves turn brilliant colors (okay, so we don’t get that in Florida, but we can use our imagination) and we settle into the cozy rhythm of fall, November offers a beautiful opportunity to pause and reflect on all we have to be thankful for.

At WES, our hearts are full. We are deeply grateful for our bright, energetic students who bring joy to our hallways every day. We are thankful for our dedicated teachers and staff, who pour their energy and passion into creating a nurturing and exciting learning environment. We are grateful for our amazing PTO and Mustang Educational Fund that help raise money for projects and programs that support our students. And, of course, we are incredibly thankful for you, our amazing parents and guardians, whose support and partnership make our school community truly special.
This month, we encourage everyone to practice gratitude—not just as a concept, but as a daily action. Ask your children what they are thankful for, or write a family "Thankful List" together. It’s a powerful way to bring warmth and positivity into your home.

October certainly kept our kindergarten kids busy! We went on our first field trip to Green Meadows Farm. Students were able to feed and interact with the animals and pick a pumpkin!
We ended the month with Book Character Dress Up Day and our fun fall rotations. Students practiced letters, sounds, and sight words all while having some fall fun!

Next up, we will have our annual Turkey Parade on November 20. Friends and families are welcome and will meet at the bike racks or outside of the cafeteria at 2:30 PM. We can’t wait to strut our stuff! Gobble, gobble!

We would like to express our gratitude for all of our WES families and wish them a happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Families,

This newsletter features Mrs. Beavin’s class. October was a busy month filled with many fun activities. The children celebrated Red Ribbon Week and finished off the month with Book Character dress up day. They enjoyed showing off their costumes and telling about the book that went along with it.

In reading, the students have finished studying Informational Text, (text features, topic and relevant details). They are continuing to move forward with the UFLI phonics lessons. In math, students have been working on balanced equations, missing addends and adding 3 numbers. In science, we have been focusing on forces and change of motion.

We are so grateful to all of you… our caring WES community! With your support of our PTO fundraiser, we were able to achieve our goal. Windermere Elementary would not be the amazing school it is without you-- our wonderful families!

Your First Grade Team,
Mrs. Beavin, Ms. Lipp, Ms.Knight, Mrs. Moore and Ms. Shreves

We are excited in third grade to have both Teach-In and Grandparents Night on November 19. We are also looking forward to our third-grade field trip to SeaWorld on December 12. In reading, this unit is about fiction and folktale stories. In writing, we will be working on expository nonfiction. In math, we will be regrouping up to the thousands and working with word problems. In science, we will be learning about the organization and development of living organisms. In social studies, we will be studying geography. We look forward to sharing about all that we are thankful for in the month of November!

Fourth Grade News

Hello Fourth Grade families!

We will be wrapping up our math unit on perimeter and area, but it is important that students keep practicing area and perimeter problems at home. It can be a challenging concept with several steps. It is essential that the kids are drawing out a picture and labeling what they know. Your help is greatly appreciated and makes a huge difference! Our next unit will cover place value.

In ELA we are circling back to prose and poetry. We’ll also be finishing our read aloud, A Land Remembered. Be on the lookout for information about our bag book reports!

In social studies we are learning about important cities in Florida’s history, and in science we are learning about energy forms!

Fifth Grade News

Hello 5th Grade Families!

Thank you to all our parents that met with us for conferences. We really enjoyed speaking with you about your child’s progress in class.

We are super excited for our first field trip of the year to Kennedy Space Center. The students loved learning about our solar system and galaxy and asked tons of great questions. This field trip will be a great way for them to learn even more about space.

In math we are working on dividing decimals.

In science we are learning about weather and the water cycle. The students are identifying different types of clouds, precipitation and more while conducting hands-on activities in the science lab with Mrs. Tidmus.

In ELA we are learning about prose and poetry with a focus on how story elements contribute to the meaning of the story or poem.

Thanks for all of your support,
5th Grade Team

PE News

Hello Windermere Families!

We’ve been busy in PE building strong bodies and great teammates. Over the past few weeks, students have been working on fundamental movement skills (running, jumping, skipping, and striking) and applying them in low-organization games that focus on sportsmanship, effort, and following directions the first time.

What we’re learning right now:

  • K–2: Locomotor skills, personal space/safety in the gym, and simple cooperative games
  • 3–5: Fitness stations, team strategies, and responsible competition
  • All grades: Why movement matters — we talk about heart rate, hydration, and being active every day

How you can help at home:

  • Encourage 60 minutes of movement a day (bike ride, park, dancing in the living room — it all counts!).
  • Send students to school with safe shoes on PE days (closed-toe, no heels, no Crocs/sandals).
  • Remind them that sportsmanship travels — we use kind words, take turns, and encourage others.

Coming up:

We’re starting to prep for some fun fitness/relay activities and will continue to stress teamwork and effort over “being the best.” We want every Windermere Mustang to feel successful in PE!

Moving with purpose,
