Mustang Families,

A Heartfelt Thank You: Celebrating an Amazing Year of Growth!

As the school year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to our incredible parents, wonderful students, amazing school teachers and staff, and dedicated volunteers for making this year so special. Your support, enthusiasm, and partnership have been instrumental in creating a positive and successful learning environment.

We are profoundly proud of our students and the significant growth they have made this year. From mastering new concepts in the classroom to demonstrating kindness and resilience every day, their achievements are a true testament to their hard work and potential. Seeing them thrive and develop into confident learners is the greatest reward.

We are especially proud of the parent support we received for our updated garden, the new student recreation room, the lounge, and the "Mustang storefront" created to celebrate students' positive choices. Our PTO and Mustang Education Fund have been hard at work to ensure students have amazing experiences and learning opportunities. These groups are already hard at work getting ready to welcome new and returning students in August!

To our amazing fifth-grade students and families, we wish you the very best as you head off to middle school. For some of our families, this is your last child leaving Windermere, and you take with you a lot of pride and history from your family's journey through this school. Please know you will be missed by all! You have left an imprint on this school's legacy! You're always welcomed back because “Once a Mustang, Always a Mustang!”

Thank you once again for your commitment to our school community. We wish all our families a safe, restful, and joyful summer break! We look forward to seeing everyone back next year.
With gratitude,
Ms. Bittick and Ms. Brooks

🌟 Kindergarten Update 🌟

A colorful butterfly is centered on a blue background with clouds and confetti, text reads 'Flying Up to First Grade'.
Our sweet little kindergarten students have learned and grown so much. The time has come for them to spread their wings and fly up to first grade.

We will celebrate that growth with our end of the year celebration as we “Fly Up to First Grade!” We will meet at the PE pavilion on MONDAY, MAY 18 at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to attend. Parents are encouraged to carpool as parking is tight. Please park on the grassy area next to the cafeteria parking lot and walk around to the bike racks. There, you will be let in to the PE pavilion. The presentation will last about 15 minutes. You may then sign your child out and take them home for a little special family time, if you wish.
Prevent the summer slide! Lexia Core 5 will be available on Classlink this summer. Students can access this with their student number and password (YYYYMMDD). Check your child’s binder for login information. This would be a great way to keep skills fresh and to start first grade prepared.

The kindergarten teachers thank you for all of your support this year. It was an honor to be your child’s teacher! Have a safe and relaxing summer!

First Grade News

May was an exciting month. All first-grade classes had the opportunity to go and visit the learning garden. They enjoyed the lessons about plant parts and then they had a blast exploring in the garden. The children have been working so hard on all their studies in reading, math, science, and social studies as they prepare to move on to second grade. First grade will have their end of year party, May 26, with a luau theme. It will be a fun send-off to second grade!

The first-grade team would like to thank each and every family for all the support and help that you have given us this year. We have enjoyed the year with your children and look forward to watching them grow and blossom in the coming years at WES.

Your WES First Ladies,
Mrs. Beavin, Ms. Knight, Ms. Lipp, Mrs. Moore, and Ms. Shreves

Second Grade News

In reading, second graders continue to review comprehension skills through a novel study of the wonderful book, Charlotte’s Web. They are getting to know the characters and the power of friendship. Our novel study culminated with some fun Charlotte’s Web activities, crafts, and will enjoy the original movie with popcorn and snacks! Our students are thrilled with the mystery readers joining us to read Charlotte's Web!

In math, students are reviewing algebraic reasoning, measurement, time, money, and geometry. The students loved working hands-on with glow sticks to review geometry and perimeter! Thank you, parents, for the supplies to make math more fun!

In science, students will identify the basic needs that all plants and animals need for survival. We will also discuss habitats. We will finish the unit then begin a science blitz 3rd grade preview!

Third Grade News

Third grade was excited to show all they know on our FAST test for both reading and math! We have worked hard to master many reading and math concepts this year. We are also looking forward to our Mad Science in-house school field trip in the month of May. We can't wait to practice our cursive handwriting, complete novel studies, and continue reviewing all we have learned this year. We will practice writing with an argumentative essay. In social studies, we are finishing up our unit about economy. For science, we are learning about interdependence with the food chain and changes through adapting and seasons.

Wow- we have learned so much this school year! Thank you for being wonderful, supportive parents! Keep an eye out for next year’s Sunshine State books to get a head start!
